What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is made of two components. One component is what we called a dental crown or the tooth which is visible in the mouth. It is made from variety of materials (porcelain, zirconia, metal etc.). Dental implant crowns are usually made from aesthetic materials to match with the patients teeth.

Second component is the part which is inserted into the bone. It is titanium device which integrates with the bone over time and become immovable in the bone. Bone cells attach themselves to dental implant surface.

No. With proper use of anesthetic, dental implant surgery is not painful at all. Dental implant site will be completely numb from pain, but you will experience some vibrations. Any pain following surgery can be overcome with effective pain medications.

Teeth lasts lifetime with proper care and getting treatment when needed. Same is true for dental implants. They can last lifetime if proper care is taken.
However, it also depends on the location of the implant, the patient’s overall health, both at the time of placing the implant and their ongoing health status, and the patient’s compliance with oral hygiene and routine dental visits
